Cherish the Moment

“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17

Almost every week, I make a post in which I encourage my readers to take a moment of stillness; a stillness that doesn’t require silencing the chaos, but being still in the midst of the noise. A moment to slow down and reflect on your week, your circumstances, your surroundings and your blessings. A moment that I believe should be implemented into our every day.

Every week I am astonished that yet another week has come and gone. It seems as though hours seem to tick by in seconds, and days in minutes. One thing after another carries the moments right along, and if we aren’t intentional in breaking the cycle, those moments will pass us by before we know it.

Yesterday, in a moment when things could have been serious, quiet, and even stressful, I watched a friend break out in dance. Even through the masks, I could tell that a smile was stretching across the face of every single witness, including my own. Laughter and some encouraging hooting and hollering followed closely behind the start of this choreographed dance routine.

So often we cherish big moments in life; births, graduations, marriages, so on and so forth. These are often the moments that we find ourselves saying, “I wish I could stay right here for forever.” But what if we found those moments more often? What if we began to cherish the moments within our every week? Our every day?

We know that we cannot stay in one moment ‘for forever’, but we can more greatly admire the moments that are leading us to forever.

As I was typing these words, I was trying to decide on an accompanying passage, when I was reminded of this scripture above. In the Lord’s perfect timing, this verse out of Zephaniah came across the screen of my phone earlier this week. I had taken a screen shot and when I went back to it today, I grinned as I read the first few words.

“The Lord your God is with you…”

My cherished moment this week was filled with laughter, smiles, a dancing friend… and you know what else? The overwhelming presence of the Lord.

What moment are you cherishing with Him today?

There is not one moment that you may choose to savor in which He will not be present; in which He will not be right there dwelling in the seconds by your side.

Savor it and know that it is just one of many on your way to forever.
