Adventure Packed Stillness

“For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.” Psalms 95:3-5 NIV

Where did you find your moment of stillness this week?

My past week was pack-filled with adventure. Hiking, running, mountain biking, paddle boarding, and even rock climbing. Nearly every day came with a new activity, new friends, and a new location.

As much as I enjoy all of these things, the company around me, and the thrill of the adventure that God has placed in front of me, I still found myself desiring and resting in moments of stillness. A moment to take a breath and intentionally invite God into the space.

Where did I find my moments of stillness this week?

Sitting by a waterfall in complete silence; thankful for the beauty of creation and the opportunity I have been given to enjoy it.

Taking my spot in the back of the line on a hike; a spot from which I could just take it all in – the freshness of the air, the voices of the dear friends before me, and the lay of the land.

Overlooking the lake of a valley from a rock shelf on our climb; finding joy in the learning of a new sport from a new friend.

Catching multiple shooting stars from the comfort of my tent; resting in the peaceful silence of the night.

I know that your week may not mirror mine. I know that our settings, situations, and obligations are probably not the same; maybe not even remotely similar. We have different worries and different passions, different friends and different definitions of fun.

But I also know that in many ways, we are very much the same and if I had to guess, that desire and need for a moment of stillness is likely something that we share.

Find that moment today.

Whether you are climbing up a rock face overlooking a valley or climbing the stairs to lay your child down for bed, take a breath, soak it in, and invite Him in.
